General

Congressman Jared Huffman (D-CA) authored a letter, with 22 other members of Congress, to the EPA attacking Bitcoin’s PoW mining, highlighting their “serious concerns regarding reports that cryptocurrency facilities across the country are polluting communities and are having an outsized contribution to greenhouse gas emissions.” Notably no members of Congress from Texas joined the letter.
Axios Crypto reports that the Federal Reserve is feeling the heat, and has announced a new service to banks and credit unions called FedNow, a 24/7 payment settlement service, launching in 2023.
As previously reported two crypto backed PACs, WEB3 Forward and Protect Our Future PAC, spent over $2 million supporting State Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Dallas) run for US Congress. Recent PAC disclosures reported by Texas Election Source shows that the much of the two PACs funds came from FTX executives Samuel Bankman-Fried and Nishad Singh.
Mining
Argo is plugging in miners at its 200 MW Helios facility in Dickens County, getting closer to launch this quarter.
Compass Mining podcast interviewed power systems engineer Blake King on his thesis that Bitcoin mining in west Texas has a major logistics problem, arguing that gigawatts worth of Bitcoin mines are schedule to come online in 2022-23, but getting all the moving parts in line is more risky than most will admit.
